After a failed kidney transplant and a 12-hour open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve, Steve developed "Critical Illness Myopathy." Never to walk again, Steve and Linda found an equilibrium of weekly dates courtesy of the Access Bus. Well aware of how marginal he looked, Steve would say, "Linda Jo, let's go out and sell us some pencils!"
